What are Antioxidants?: Antioxidants consist of a group of vitamins, minerals and enzymes that have health enhancing effects for our bodies. An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves. As a result, antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols, ascorbic acid or polyphenols.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that moisturizes and helps to protect skin and lips against premature aging and environmental aggressors.
Jojoba Oil: Jojoba is grown for the liquid wax (commonly called jojoba oil) in its seeds. This oil is rare in that it is an extremely long (C36-C46) straight-chain wax ester and not a triglyceride, making jojoba and its derivative jojoba esters more similar to human sebum and whale oil than to traditional vegetable oils. In skin care Jojoba oil seems to be readily absorbed. It will not block pores. It seems
to help moisture loss. When used as a moisturizer it tends to soothe wrinkles and lines
due to dry skin. Your skin may appear more supple and feel smoother and softer.
Lanolin: Lanolin has natural moisturizing properties and helps the skin maintain suppleness and elasticity.
Aloe Vera: is a cactus-like plant growing in the warmer climates of the world and are described as succulents. Aloe vera is a very popular herbal remedy. The Aloe vera plant (also called Aloe barbadensis) is unique among plants for its importance in natural skin care. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Chinese to decrease the appearance of scars and to moisturize and heal skin. |
